Public libraries are growing in South Korea


In South Korea, an increase in the number of public libraries was recorded. It is reported by KBS with reference to representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Institute of Culture and Tourism (KCTI). According to published data, at the end of 2019 there were 1,134 public libraries in the country, which is 38 institutions more than a year earlier. It is known that the largest number of cultural and educational institutions is located in Gyeonggido province (277 libraries), followed by Seoul (180 libraries), Gyeongsang Namdo province (72 libraries), Jeolla Namdo province (70 libraries), Gyeongsang Pukto province (66 libraries), Chuncheon Namdo province (63 libraries). The number of books in libraries also increased by 3.3%, to 115.08 million copies, the number of employees by 982 people, to 17,558 people, the number of visitors by 2.4%, to 284.41 million people.
